Skyhawks Football Shows Potential in 2026 Spring Game

VALLEY, Ala. - Point University wrapped up spring camp with a competitive and physical spring game that highlighted growth on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Skyhawks showed balance in the run game with contributions from Quon Moss (10 yards), Jace Grant (14 yards), Hakem Hodges (5 yards), and AJ Lowe (8 yards).

In the passing game, Chris Lipscomb (1/2, 10 yards) and Derrick Lum (1/1, 3 yards) were efficient in limited reps. The receiving corps was led by Messiah Wilson, who recorded 8 receptions on 12 targets for 51 yards and a touchdown, while also contributing on jet sweeps. Big-play ability showed up across the group, including Shawn Jones' 45-yard reception and solid production from Rodarious Lewis (30 yards) and David Howard (35 yards).

Defensively, the unit set the tone throughout the scrimmage with strong pressure and disruptive play. Jayden Grier and Ken Arnold each recorded 4 sacks, while Kassidy Deans and Tito Jones added 2 sacks apiece. Tyquon Hollins contributed across the board with tackles for loss, a sack, and a quarterback pressure. The defense consistently affected the quarterback, combining multiple pressures and negative plays.

In the secondary, the group created turnovers and competed well in coverage. Andrew, Dae, and Reggie Hill each recorded interceptions, while multiple players contributed pass breakups, including J. Stephens, Armani, and J. Price. The defense also saw steady tackling production from several players, including Jayvon Hatch, Jakari Nobles, and Selah Clemons.

Head Coach Nigel Lawrence:

"I thought this spring was extremely productive for us. We emphasized toughness, discipline, and accountability from day one, and you could see that show up in how we competed today. Defensively, we created pressure and played fast, and offensively we saw flashes of explosiveness and playmaking ability. We're not where we want to be yet, but we've taken a step in the right direction. Now it's about continuing that momentum into the summer and building toward the fall."
