Bio
Nigel Lawrence, a native of Smiths Station, Alabama, was named the head football coach at Point University in May 2025. He led the Skyhawks to a 4-6 record in his debut season, with each of those wins coming against fellow Appalachian Athletic Conference teams.
A former professional athlete, Lawrence brought over seven years of diverse and successful coaching experience at both the collegiate and high school levels. His coaching philosophy centers around player development, academic excellence, and building a strong foundation of discipline and leadership.
Lawrence holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from the University of South Alabama. He began his coaching career in 2019 at Jackson High School in Jackson, Alabama, where he helped lead the program to an AHSAA State Playoff appearance. He then continued his high school coaching career at Russell County High School, where he played a pivotal role in developing multiple All-State athletes and helping several student-athletes earn college scholarships in various sports.
In 2021, Lawrence stepped into collegiate coaching with Point University. Over four seasons as an assistant coach, he became a key figure in player development and was instrumental in building the foundation of one of the top defenses in the conference. His tenure saw the emergence of numerous All-Conference performers, Defensive Players of the Year, and NAIA All-Americans—several of whom have gone on to play professionally both nationally and internationally.
In 2024, Lawrence returned to Russell County High School to help revitalize the program. His dynamic leadership on the defensive side of the ball helped the Warriors reach the AHSAA Playoffs for the first time in 11 years, finishing with an impressive 9–3 record and a second-round playoff appearance.
