Chargers Sweep Clearwater Christian in Three-Game Series

During spring break, Clearwater beat Atlanta Christian when the Chargers traveled to Florida. This past weekend, when Clearwater was in Atlanta, the tables were turned with a series of three Charger wins.

Junior KC Lorow (Sharpsburg, Ga.) retired the first three batters easily, and it only took a few batters for the Chargers to get the bases loaded. The Chargers scored their first run off when the catcher missed a pitch, and from then on, Point U pretty much dominated their opponent. Lorow, who was voted National Pitcher of the Year last season, only gave up two hits. Junior Sean Finn (Fayetteville, Ga.) hit a home run, and Clearwater was only able to score once. The final score was 9-1, ACC.

The second game of the night started off about the same as the first, but it didn't stay that way for long. Clearwater took the lead first, but with the bases loaded, sophomore Chris Scott (Watkinsville, Ga.) stepped up and hit a double, bringing in all three runners. Also early in the second game, senior Jeremy Capshaw (Senoia, Ga.) hit a triple and then scored when the catcher missed another pitch. By the sixth inning, Chargers were up 6-1 -- and then things started to fall apart quickly. Clearwater came back out of nowhere and brought the score to 7-6, Clearwater, by the bottom of the seventh. Then another two-run homer from Finn kept the Chargers alive. In the bottom of the eighth, the Chargers battled back from a three-run outburst by Clearwater to tie the game at 10. After two scoreless innings, the Chargers pushed a run across in the bottom of the 10th with a walk-off single from Finn with bases loaded to send Clearwater home. The game that was supposed to be over in seven innings went to ten. The Chargers, determined to be victorious, were able to pull out an 11-10 win.

The third game of the series was the next morning. Clearwater scored first, but with the determination still there from the night before, Finn stepped up to the plate, his very first at-bat for the day, and hit another two-run homer. The run brought in junior Tyler Ward (Madison, Ga.) to take the lead back form Clearwater. Clearwater did score again in the fourth, but Point U answered with two of their own the same inning. Two runs from Clearwater in the fifth were answered by two in the seventh. But even with a lead of 7-4 in the seventh inning, Finn still wasn't done; he stepped up to the plate in the eighth inning and hit yet another two-run homer, bringing the score to 9-4. This earned Finn his new unofficial nickname, the "Clearwater Killer," and secured the win for the Chargers.
