Skyhawks Split AAC Doubleheader with Bluefield College
BLUEFIELD, Va. – Point basbeall split an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader against Bluefield College winning the first game 3-2 and losing a heartbreaker in the second game 4-3 on a walk-off home run.
Kyle Lorow (SR/Sharpsburg, Ga.) pitched in both games for the Skyhawks, picking up the save in the first game, pitching 1.2 innings, not giving up any runs or hits and striking out two. In the second game he pitched four innings, not giving up any runs on six hits and striking out one batter.
The Skyhawks won the first game of the series 3-2 behind another solid outing by Josh Nestlehutt (JR/Fairburn, Ga.) on the mound. In the game, he pitched five and one-third innings, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two batters.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning, the Skyhawks got on the board with two runs. After getting hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, Michael Hughes (SR/Palmetto, Ga.) scored on an RBI single to left by Omar Smith (JR/Mobile, Ala.) and was followed up by an RBI single by Trevor Maxey (SR/Mobile, Ala.), scoring Byrom Ferrell (JR/Newnan, Ga.) from third.
The Skyhawks would add their final run in the game in the fifth inning. After back-to-back singles by Hughes and Christian Cabral (FR/Santo Domingo, DR ), Ferrell came through with an RBI single to make the score 3-1.
After fly out, a single and an RBI double by Bluefield, Kyle Lorow would come in to pitch with the score 3-2. Lorow ended the Bluefield threat with a strikeout and a ground out.
In the game, Lorow would finish the final inning and two-thirds, picking up the save for the Skyhawks, not giving up any hits or runs and striking out two batters.
Harris Pollard would start the second game of the doubleheader and would only pitch one inning, giving up a run on two hits and a walk, striking out one batter.
In the top of the second inning, the Skyhawks would again jump out on top with two runs. Ferrell led off the inning with a single and scored on Matt Hayes (JR/Griffin, Ga.)' monster home run.
With the score 3-2 in favor of the Skyhawks in the bottom of the seventh inning, pitcher Nathan Skinner (SR/Griffin, Ga.) gave up a two run walk-off home run with a runner on second and two outs to drop the second game of the series 4-3.
