Skyhawks drop SSAC opener weekend series
WEST POINT, Ga. ( Feb. 14-15, 2025)- The Point University Baseball team traveled to Brewton-Parker to open up Southern States Athletic Conference play in a weekend series where the Barons took the series 2-1.
Game One (6-4 win)
The Skyhawks' success was spearheaded by Zavion Anderson, who stood out by scoring four crucial runs. Rafael Jackson and Jaden Mazzaferro also contributed to the scoreboard, ensuring a robust lead for the team. Mazzaferro, alongside Anderson, Michael Buckley, Brady Bye, and Kevin Moore were instrumental in driving in runs, which were vital in securing the win against the Barons. Starting pitcher Max Beaulieu delivered a commendable performance on the mound, setting the stage for Point's defensive stability throughout the game. The strategic plays and teamwork demonstrated by the Skyhawks underlined the strong will of the team. The Skyhawks were victorious 6-4.
Game Two (12-3 loss)
The Skyhawks started the game with Joshua Castillo on the mound, who fought hard against a tough Brewton-Parker lineup. Despite the loss, there were noteworthy performances from several Point University players. Rafael Jackson led the batting for the Skyhawks, scoring two of the team's three runs, while Sam Baker added another run to the tally, demonstrating resilience against the Barons' defense. Keegan Moore and Daniel Gonzalez were instrumental in keeping the game competitive, each securing an RBI. The fifth inning marked a significant moment for the Skyhawks, as they managed to score two runs, illuminating their potential and fighting spirit in the game. The contest ended 12-3.
Game Three (5-3 loss)
From the start, the Skyhawks displayed competitive spirit, battling fiercely against their opponents. Rafael Jackson, Michael Buckley, and Chris Mancill carried the team's offense, each scoring runs in an attempt to clinch the win. Buckley further heightened the excitement with a spectacular homerun, marking a significant moment in the game. Contributions were also seen from Daniel Gonzalez and Michael Buckley, who each secured RBIs, adding crucial runs to the Skyhawks' tally. Carson Curry, the starting pitcher for the Skyhawks, showed resilience on the mound, despite the challenging opposition. The game's outcome, however, didn't reflect the intense effort and skill displayed by the Point University team.
