Point University Skyhawks Fall to Blue Mountain Christian in SSAC Weekend Series
WEST POINT, Ga.(Feb. 21-22, 2025)- The Point University baseball team faced Blue Mountain Christian in a Southern States Athletic Conference three game weekend series where the Skyhawks got swept 3-0 by the Toppers.
Game One (loss 8-5)
Despite strong performances from Chris Mancill, Arwin Burgos, and Keegan Moore, who collectively contributed five runs, the Skyhawks fell to the Toppers with a final score of 8-5.
Point University's hitters showed resilience throughout the game. Chris Mancill and Arwin Burgos each scored twice, adding significant pressure to the Toppers' defense. Keegan Moore also crossed the plate once, demonstrating the offensive capabilities of the Skyhawks. Contributing to the runs, Sam Baker stood out with three RBIs, supported by Rafael Jackson and Arwin Burgos, who added one RBI each. The Skyhawks faced tough opposition, contending with a fourth-inning surge by the Toppers, where they scored four pivotal runs, driven by strategic walks and a consequential wild pitch.
Game Two (loss 7-3)
The Point University Skyhawks were outpaced by Blue Mountain Christian, concluding the game with a score of 7-3. The Toppers took advantage of key moments to secure their win.
The Skyhawks opened up the scoring with Rafael Jackson crossing home in the 1st inning. Despite additions to the scoreboard from Michael Buckley and Garrison Coleman in the 4th and 5th innings, it wasn't enough to overcome the Toppers' strong offensive outing. Point University was set back by a difficult 2nd inning where Blue Mountain Christian scored four crucial runs courtesy of two defensive errors. These missteps proved costly for the Skyhawks as their opponents leveraged every opportunity, including scoring from a wild pitch and a balk in the 6th inning.
Standout performances for the Skyhawks included Danny Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, and Michael Buckley, who hit a key triple and scored a run.
Game Three (loss 10-0)
The Point University Skyhawks were overpowered by Blue Mountain Christian with a decisive 10-0 loss on February 22, 2025, in West Point, Georgia. The Skyhawks, playing at home, could not find their rhythm against the stalwart Toppers.
From the beginning, Blue Mountain Christian dominated the scoreboard. The Toppers tallied runs, contributing significantly to the Toppers' victory.
