Skyhawks Dropped Weekend Mobile Series 2-1
Mobile, Ala.(Apr. 4-5, 2025) - The Point University Baseball team traveled to Mobile this past weekend in a Southern States Athletic Conference series where they fell to the Rams 2-1.
Game 1
The Point University Skyhawks were defeated by the Mobile Rams in game one with a final score of 10-5 on April 4, 2025, in Mobile, AL.
The Skyhawks showed resilience despite the outcome. Key players like Daniel Gonzalez, Rafael Jackson, Arwin Burgos, Sam Baker, and Michael Buckley contributed by scoring the team's five runs. Particularly notable were Jackson and Gonzalez, who, along with Zavion Anderson and Baker, also earned runs batted in (RBIs) during the game. Starting pitcher Dylan Davis struggled to contain the Rams' offense, leading to a challenging day on the mound.
Game 2
In game two the Point University Skyhawks fell short against the Mobile Rams with a final score of 5-4.
The game started with the Mobile Rams taking an early lead by scoring two runs at the bottom of the first inning, and they further solidified their position with two additional runs in the second inning. The Point University Skyhawks, however, began their scoring in the top of the sixth with their first run of the game. The momentum continued into the seventh inning when the Skyhawks notched three runs, tying the game and setting the stage for a dramatic finale. Nonetheless, the Rams secured the win with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Individual performances were noteworthy, with Harris Burns starting as pitcher for the Skyhawks. Key contributions came from Michael Buckley, Arwin Burgos, Brett Campbell, and Sam Baker, who all scored runs. Rafael Jackson, Chris Mancill, and Sam Baker were responsible for the RBIs, with Jackson executing a crucial sacrifice fly. Additionally, Daniel Gonzalez stood out with two doubles and two hits, and Michael Buckley also added two hits.
Game 3
In a thrilling Southern States Athletic Conference showdown on April 5, 2025, the Point University Skyhawks emerged victorious, defeating the Mobile Rams with a final score of 16 to 12.
The Skyhawks showcased a balanced attack throughout the lineup. Daniel Gonzalez led the team with four runs, while Michael Buckley, Rafael Jackson, and Brady Bye were instrumental in driving in multiple runs. The pivotal moment of the contest came in the 2nd inning when Point University surged ahead by amassing six runs, setting the tone for the rest of the game. The highlight of the match was undoubtedly Brady Bye's grand slam in the 9th inning, which secured the win for the Skyhawks. Bye, along with Chris Mancill, who also homered during the game, provided the necessary firepower.
The starting pitcher, Maxime Beaulieu, had a solid outing, and the batting lineup was further bolstered by Michael Buckley and Daniel Gonzalez, who both went 4-for-7, with Buckley adding a double and Gonzalez a stolen base. Chris Mancill's performance was particularly noteworthy, contributing a homerun and three RBIs.
