Skyhawks Can’t Erase Early Deficit Against Truett McConnell

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Despite showing life after a sluggish start, the Point University Skyhawks were unable to climb the mountain in a 13-3 road loss to the Truett McConnell Bears on Tuesday afternoon at the TMU Baseball Complex.

The Bears displayed dominance at the plate early with five runs scored on five hits at the bottom of the first inning against starting pitcher Brody Hill. The frame was finished by reliever Jack Teague, who pitched two and a third innings, the longest mound appearance by any Skyhawk in the game.

Point countered in the second inning on a Josiah Palomino 2-RBI double, resulting in runs from Garrison Coleman and Brady Bye. Truett McConnell put up another crooked number in the home half as they built up another five-run advantage at 7-2.

After a fourth inning solo homer from the Bears' Donovan Parker, Bye went from scoring a run to knocking one in while Damian Hernandez was running, making it an 8-3 ball game. But Truett McConnell finished what they started and unleashed two runs in the seventh and three in the third to activate the run-rule and finalize a 13-3 final score.

Parker was the stats leader for the Bears, going 4-5 against Skyhawks pitching with six RBIs. On paper, Bye had the most productive day at the dish with a hit, run, RBI and a walk.

The Skyhawks' overall record now stands at 10-9 as William Carey University comes to West Point Park for three games this weekend. The series opener is this Friday, March 6 at 5:00pm.
