Hernandez Homers in Series Finale Loss to William Carey
WEST POINT, Ga. – Damian Hernandez slugged his second home run of the season on Saturday afternoon, but it was the lone offensive highlight for the Point University Skyhawks in a 12-1 defeat to the William Carey University Crusaders at West Point Park.
The Skyhawks trailed from the second inning on after William Carey broke the game open with a four-run frame, then stacked on three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and two more in the sixth to seize control.
Point starter Vittorio Iacobucci was tagged with the loss after working 3 2/3 innings. The right-hander allowed seven earned runs as William Carey capitalized on multiple walks and wild pitches to extend innings and create scoring chances. The Skyhawks' bullpen was pressed into extended duty, with Jack Teague, Houston Wedgeworth, Garrett Mullins and Elijah Dunbar covering the remaining 3 1/3 innings.
The Skyhawks matched William Carey's six hits and were not charged with any errors. Tommy Hoye was the lone man in the Point batting order to see multiple hits at the plate.
After six games of conference action, the Skyhawks are hoping to find their first win against an SSAC opponent this season on Friday, March 13 when they play host to Thomas University. First pitch is slated for 5:00pm.
