Faulkner Attacks Early, Hands Skyhawks 14-3 Loss

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After a midweek non-conference detour, the Point University Skyhawks returned to SSAC action on Friday night and were defeated handily 14-3 by the Faulkner University Eagles at Harrison Field.

Faulkner tore open a scoreless game with four runs in the second inning and five more in the third, scoring in six of seven frames overall. The stretch began in the second when Orlando Arellano drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the game's first run, and Dariel Colón followed with a three-run double to left-center to make it 4-0. One inning later, a five-run Faulkner rally — highlighted by Arellano reaching on a pitcher error that allowed two unearned runs and a run-scoring single from Colón — stretched the advantage to 9-0 and effectively decided the outcome.

Offensively, Point was held to six hits and did not record an extra-base hit until the sixth inning. The Skyhawks found momentum in the fourth when an error moved a runner to third and Damian Hernandez delivered an RBI single for Point's first run, cutting the deficit to 9-1 at the time. In the sixth, the Skyhawks found their most offensive success, pushing across two more runs to briefly close within 11-3. Bailey Stroud, Arwin Burgos and Brady Bye were the Skyhawks to score. Hernandez went 2-for-3 as a hitter in the series opener.

In that sixth inning, Bye lined a triple down the right-field line to plate a run after a stolen base set up the scoring chance. Shortly after, Garrison Coleman added an RBI single to cap a two-run frame, giving Point its third run of the night. The late production showcased the Skyhawks' ability to generate offense in spurts.

The loss went to starting pitcher Dylan Davis who is now 2-3 after working the first three innings, surrendering nine of the Eagles ' 14 runs and gaining two strikeouts to his season total. Eli Kirby took the ball after him and earned punchouts on four batters through two innings.

The Skyhawks and Eagles rematch tomorrow with a doubleheader in Montgomery. The seven-inning game will begin at 1:00pm EDT, while the nine-inning tilt afterwards is projected for a 4:00pm start.
