Skyhawks Split Saturday to Clinch Series Over Brewton-Parker

WEST POINT, Ga. – It was all about the offense on Saturday for the Point University Skyhawks in a grueling doubleheader that lasted over nine hours from start to finish. It featured a 9-6 loss to Brewton-Parker Christian University before the Skyhawks rebounded with an 18-17 walk-off win over the Barons.

Game One:

Point reversed two separate three-run deficits, but Brewton-Parker answered each time and pulled away late for a 9-6 victory.

After falling into an immediate 3-0 deficit, Brady Bye's sacrifice fly scored Bailey Stroud at the bottom of the first inning. Point evened the score in the next inning behind another sac fly from Garrison Coleman and Tommy Hoye scoring on a wild pitch.

Brewton-Parker grabbed the lead with three runs in the fifth inning, but the Skyhawks matched that in the home half. Damian Hernandez cranked his third home run of the season over the left center field wall while Arwin Burgos ran on second base. Moments later, Brady Bye was safe at home thanks to an error by the Barons infield.

The Skyhawks were shut down the remainder of the game as Brewton-Parker logged two runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh.

Game Two:

Point saved its best swings for last, scoring four times in the bottom of the ninth to stun Brewton-Parker 18-17.

The Skyhawks jumped out quickly with three runs in the first inning, highlighted by Jackson Divido's single to right that drove in two runs for a 3-0 lead. Brewton-Parker answered with a massive second inning, scoring nine runs to flip the game in a hurry. Caleb Strott's three-run homer capped that surge, and the Barons kept pressure on the scoreboard from there, building a 12-3 advantage after four innings.

Point never let the game get away. The Skyhawks put together a five-run fourth inning to climb back within striking distance, then delivered another jolt in the sixth. Arwin Burgos tripled during a six-run frame as Point erased the deficit and pulled even at 14-14. In a game that kept twisting, the Skyhawks piled up 21 hits.

Down 17-14, the ninth inning belonged to the Skyhawks. Will Hoggard helped ignite the rally, Burgos delivered an RBI single, and Brady Bye came through with the biggest hit of the stretch, a two-run single that pushed Point in front. Bye finished with three hits and five RBIs, while Burgos went 4 for 6 with four runs scored, two RBIs and a triple. Bailey Stroud added four hits, three runs and two RBIs.

Each batter in Point's starting order earned a hit with six collecting multiple. Despite throwing a single inning, Jacob Rossi was named the winning pitcher, striking out two and walking one.

The Skyhawks will see an unfamiliar opponent this season up next on Friday, April 10 when they visit SSAC rival Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for a 5:00pm start.
