Crabtree and Iacobucci Shine on the Mound in Doubleheader Sweep Against #14 Loyola

WESTWEGO, La. – Both entering the triple digits of their pitch counts on Friday night, Daniel Crabtree and Vittorio Iacobucci put on a clinic in the Point University Skyhawks' 5-2 and 4-3 wins against the #14 Loyola University New Orleans Wolf Pack at Segnette Field.

Game One (5-2 W):

Point established an aggressive plate appearance to begin the game and pushed across a run from Garrison Coleman on Damian Hernandez's first-inning groundout. Loyola matched them in the home half with Kash Koontz coming home from third base on an infield error.

The Skyhawks' bats cooled off until the fourth inning when Brady Bye singled in Damian Hernandez. Two runners were worked into scoring position, setting the stage for Dylan Lindsey's 2-RBI line drive off the bench that made it 4-1 Point. Bye and Jackson Divido jogged home on the play with two outs.

The fifth inning included Loyola's Jaxon Buratt pulling them within two on a base hit that allowed Myles Liggans to score from 90 feet away.

Arwin Burgos' only hit arrived in his most crucial at-bat. He poked a ball through the left side of the infield for the RBI and a 5-2 Skyhawks lead in the seventh.

Point pitching was handled entirely by Daniel Crabtree, who stranded a runner on in the bottom half of the final inning to put away the Wolf Pack for good. He threw 100 pitches and let up his two runs on six hits. The Skyhawks' final totals showed nine hits, with Loyola starting pitcher Brady Bowen being responsible for seven across four innings.

Game Two (4-3 W):

After a quiet opening inning, Point turned in a three-hit second. Jackson Divido's double drove in Jonathan Kohlman before Loyola starter Michael Hotard worked out of trouble on the mound with runners on the corners.

Jovan Swasey found the Wolf Pack's answer during the third. On a Myles Liggans bunt, he beat the throw home on a fielder's choice to make it 1-1. Liggans served as the go-ahead run on Buratt's third hit of the doubleheader, and a passed ball in the ensuing inning grew Loyola's lead to 3-1.

In the seventh inning, Point turned the game on its head. Jonathan Kohlman batted in Will Hoggard and Arwin Burgos handed the Skyhawks their second lead of the game at 4-3. Kohlman and Bailey Stroud represented the runs that lifted the Skyhawks ahead.

Vittorio Iacobucci grinded out eight innings on 118 pitches before Harris Burns entered for his first save of the season. Burns sat down Loyola in order with a pair of strikeouts and a flyout. Iacobucci had a brilliant outing with only three hits given up and nine strikeouts. Point outhit Loyola 8-3.

The Skyhawks look to go perfect on their four-game week with a series finale tomorrow against Loyola at 2:00pm EDT.
