Skyhawks Unable to Withstand Mobile in Series Opener

WEST POINT, Ga. – The Point University Skyhawks kept the action close in the later stages of the game on Thursday evening, but the University of Mobile Rams scored five runs in both the seventh and eighth innings in an 15-8 final at West Point Park.

Mobile's opening run was set up by a triple from Ethan Plank in the second at-bat of the game. Adrian Salas used an infield error to send him home and put the Rams on the board first. Salas added another RBI in the fourth, that time singling in Eli Smith and doubling the Rams' lead to 2-0.

Arwin Burgos breathed life into the Skyhawks at the bottom of the fourth inning with his third home run of the season, cutting the deficit in half.

Both teams traded runs in the fifth. Salas came to the plate and struck once again for his third RBI in as many at-bats as Mobile's advantage moved to 3-1. Garrison Coleman charged home on a wild pitch later in the inning, pulling Point back within one.

Skyhawks starting pitcher Dylan Davis battled into the seventh inning, where his day finished on a ground rule double by Plank which batted in Smith. With the score 4-2, Garrett Mullins was welcomed into the game with an RBI single courtesy of Ethan Hilpert and a Reed Wilson home run that plated three more and stretched the lead to six.

Burgos reduced Point's deficit to 8-3 after he doubled for his second hit of the night and ultimately scored on a groundout that retired Brady Bye.

Plank continued to thrive for the Rams, finding the left field corner on a triple that sent in two runs in the eighth. Then, Trevor Murphy launched a pitch over the left field wall as Mobile boosted their lead to double digits at 13-3.

With Mobile three outs away from a run-rule victory, Point nullified that with a three-spot. Coleman's RBI single was ensued by Bailey Stroud advancing home on a wild pitch and Bye getting walked in from third.

Both teams fired away until the very end. Mobile brought in a pair of runs at the top of the ninth and the Skyhawks bounced back with Easton Harrison knocking in Jonathan Kohlman. Harrison came around and scored on a bases loaded walk, but Rams pitcher Jake Quina put the game in the record books with a strikeout to retire the side.

The Skyhawks and Rams tied each other with 13 hits. Davis was charged with the loss on five runs and eight hits. He was on the hill during four of Mobile's eight strikeouts. The winning pitcher was Isidro Jiminez, who allowed just one run in his two and a third innings.

The Skyhawks round out their 2026 regular season tomorrow with a doubleheader against Mobile. The pair of games at West Point Park are slated for 1:00 and 4:00pm EDT.
