Coach Bryant talks about spring football
For some, springtime is filled with fun in the sun activities and hanging with your friends, but for the Point University Skyhawk Football team this is when the work begins. After interviewing Coach Bryant, offensive coordinator, he helped tap into the game plan for the spring game and for the season next year.
When asked what his expectations and goals are on the offensive end, he stated, "Our number one goal as offense this year is to be more physical in our run game." He went on to compare last year's season to this upcoming season, "We were not too successful running the ball which ate up some clock time and gave the defense time to rest. If we are able to execute running the ball, it should open up the field for big pass plays."
Long before spring, the offense had been working hard in the weight room. To build on top of the mindset of PHYSICALITY, Coach Bryant showed enthusiasm for all the hard work paying off. To finish up what he expected from his offense, he stated, "We need to score at least seven points every quarter of the game."
As far as the quarterbacks go, Bryant said, "Our guys right now are more athletic quarterbacks which is what we needed last year. Now in our offense, we will need a guy to manage the offense and be able to sit in the pocket and complete passes at a high percentage. But with that being said, he will still need to be able to scramble and make a play with his feet if our protection isn't the greatest on a particular play."
Coach Bryant obviously has a game plan for success for his offense and for the team as a whole. He ended the interview with this statement, "Our offense will have to be a unit that takes pride every time we hit the field, and we will not give up the ball on our side of the 50 yard line". This is no doubt a powerful statement from a determined Coach. Everyone should beware the Skyhawk offense for the spring season and beyond.
