Strickland, Eight Others Receive Sun Conference Honors

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Sun Conference announced its first ever All-Conference football team on Friday. Headlining the list of All-Conference selections were Jarrell Reynolds, who was named the league's Player of the Year, and Champions of Character Award winner David Strickland. The All-Conference was determined by a vote of the league's coaches.

Reynolds, a running back for the first-year Southeastern program, was a two-time Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week in 2014. A native of Quincy, Fla., he recorded 210 carries, 1,469 yards, 26 TDs and average 146.9 yards per game and seven yards per carry. Reynolds is currently list among the NAIA's top 10 in scoring (2nd, 162 points) rushing yards per game (3rd, 146.9), total rushing yards (4th, 1,469). Reynolds had seven games with 100+ rushing yards, three games with four or more touchdowns, and had a league-best 385 rushing yards against Edward Waters on Oct. 4. He also matched the NAIA record for longest play with a 99-yard touchdown run against Birmingham Southern (Oct. 11).

Strickland, a junior punter on the Point University squad, was also an All-Conference honoree. A player who his head Coach David Rocker says "exemplifies what it is to be an NAIA athlete by competing hard on the field, treating others with respect and giving back when the opportunity arises," has contributed countless hours to helping his local community. Strickland mentors middle to high school specialists at kicking camps around the southeast and he spends numerous afternoons during the season volunteering at his former high school helping their punters and kickers.

Warner Head Coach Rod Shafer was tabbed as the league's Coach of the Year. In his first season with the Royals, Shafer guided his team to a 5-5 overall record and a tie for second in the league standings with a 3-2 conference record.

The league also announced the Academic All-Conference team on Friday, which included 13 football student-athletes. To be eligible for Academic All-Conference recognition, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher with a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average.
