#20 Lindsey Wilson holds off Point’s Football Second Half Comeback

VALLEY, Ala. (Sept. 7, 2024) - The Point University Football Team returned to the field for their home opener against the No. 20 ranked Lindsey Wilson College where the Skyhawks fell to the Blue Raiders with a final score of 33-20.

The Blue Raiders opened the first quarter by forcing a turnover with their first interception of the game. Lindsey Wilson's first offensive drive was not much success as James Bryant forced a fumble to move the Blue Raiders backward. The Skyhawks took the field for their second drive but an intentional grounding on their eight-yard line resulted in a safety to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson took the next drive by using their rushing attack to move the ball. A four-yard rush in the red zone and a field goal extended the Blue Raiders lead to 9-0. As the first quarter continued, Antwuan Clayton connected with Jalen Hall for Hall's first collegiate touchdown. The field goal from Logan Wandzilak added to the score to bring it to 9-7. In the second quarter, Lindsey Wilson extended their lead with a five-yard rush and a pick-six to lead 23-7 at the half.

The second half looked to be all to the Blue Raiders with another run in the redzone to lead 30-7 but the Skyhawks proved to still have life left. Mitchell Gossett took his first snap as the signal caller with a 68-yard touchdown pass to Quintravious Teasley. A missed Point after a try kept the game at a 30-13 Lindsey Wilson advantage through three quarters. The Skyhawks continued to fight their way into the game as Mitchell Gossett aired out another deep ball to Shawn Jones Jr. For a 92-yard touchdown. Logan Wandzilak followed with another PAT field goal to trail 30-20. Point's defense continued to create three-and-outs by forcing a quick drive for the Blue Raiders to give Point the ball back. Lindsey Wilson forced multiple sacks and an interception to keep the Skyhawks from adding momentum in the quarter. A field goal and multiple runs for a first down sealed the game with a final score of 33-20.
