Mitchell Gossett and Jayden Grier earns AAC Player of the Week Honors
WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 11, 2024) - The Appalachian Athletic Conference has announced the Conference Player of the Week honors where Mitchell Gossett and Jayden Grier were announced as Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week.
AAC Offensive Player of the Week: Mitchell Gossett
Mitchell Gossett has made himself known as one of the top quarterbacks in the AAC and is on pace for a 2,000-yard season as the signal caller. Gossett threw 20-for-31 with 274 Passing Yards and two touchdowns in the 29-15 win over Union Commonwealth on Saturday. During the season, Gossett threw 1,881 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. The Senior from Pell City, Alabama has always shown flashes of greatness but with the coaching of Charlie Skalaski and Trevor Zeiders, Gossett has embraced being a leader that can get his guys the ball. If Gossett reaches 2,000 passing yards in the season, he will be the first player to do so since 2017. This is his first weekly honor of the season and his second career weekly honor.
AAC Defensive Player of the Week: Jayden Grier
The Sophomore from Columbus, Georgia has waited for his moment to shine and it displayed in front of the fans and his family in the win over Union Commonwealth. Grier finished with five tackles (two solo and three assists), three tackles for loss, and one fumble recovery. Head Coach Trevor Zeiders has challenged Jayden Grier in practices to show how he is as good as he shows and Grier made the most of his opportunity. Jayden Grier looks to continue to make plays under the defense of Coach Ken Lucky as Point travels to Virginia for an AAC Matchup versus Bluefield University on Saturday, November 16th at 1:30 P.M. This is Grier's first weekly honor.
