Skyhawks Split Season-Opening Doubleheader
WEST POINT, Ga. (February 13, 2026) – It was a tale of two games for the Point Skyhawks flag football team at River Bowl Stadium, where they fell 33-13 to Daytona State College before shutting out Andrew College 66-0 on Friday afternoon to begin their 2026 campaign.
Vs. Daytona State
The Skyhawks and Falcons held each other off the board in the first quarter. Sarah Lingo and Xena Bellamy each snagged interceptions for Daytona State, but the Point defense countered with a turnover on downs before Shania Spencer picked off a pass of her own for the Skyhawks.
The first strike of the game didn't come until 3:30 remained in the second quarter. Daytona State quarterback Shania Spencer connected with Littiana Dasilvia, who snuck her way into the endzone. Point was able to get on the board exactly two minutes later with a lateral that went to Alejah Nathan for a total of 40 yards. Point's failed one point conversion led them into the midway mark of play with a 7-6 deficit.
The third quarter saw an edge that went to Daytona State, who combined touchdowns between a Spencer eight-yard rush and a Hailey Walsh run from ten yards out, sending them into the fourth with a convincing 21-6 advantage.
Chinera Shaheed got wide open for Point's final touchdown of the game, a short one-yard pass from Skyhawks quarterback Corriah Williams with 9:09 to spare in regulation. The ensuing one-point conversion saw those same two players connect again. The Falcons put away the Skyhawks for good at 33-13 after Spencer delivered Dasilvia's second touchdown of the day from 20 yards away.
Williams went 15-29 in the passing game for the Skyhawks and Kenzie Phillian hauled in six receptions for 101 total yards.
Vs. Andrew College
The Skyhawks and Fighting Tigers went through a feeling-out process after both forcing turnovers on downs on each other's opening drives. On Point's second drive, Williams fired a 30-yarder to Phillian with the clock reading 2:36 in the opening quarter. Chinera Shaheed jumped in front of a throw from Andrew quarterback Rhimaya Jiro for the Skyhawks' first pick-six of the season. Those Point touchdowns came within 13 seconds of each other.
The second quarter saw a scoring barrage from the Skyhawks with Marissa Melendez, Phillian, Shaheed and Nyleigha Knighton crossing the goal line. In that span, Knighton and Shaheed ran back interceptions, contributing to the team's total of five in the game.
A mere 25 seconds into the third quarter, Kenzie Phillian picked up 66 yards on a play to bolster the Point lead to 48-0. Shaheed showed her versatility with a touchdown while playing on the offensive front and Phillian's third of the day served as the exclamation point for their first win of the 2026 season.
The Skyhawks return to play next Saturday, February 21 with a 2:00pm road meeting with the Reinhardt Eagles.
