Skyhawks Spoil Reinhardt’s Home Opener in 49-27 Win

WALESKA, Ga. – The Point University Skyhawks spread the wealth offensively on Saturday afternoon with five different players getting open in the endzone in a 49-27 victory against the Reinhardt Eagles at Ken White Field.

Point quarterback Corriah Williams had a showstopping performance, starting the day with four consecutive passing touchdowns. Receptions from Kenzie Phillian, Amara Davila, Chinera Shaheed and Leah Prather tied together a 28-0 Skyhawks lead which lasted into the second quarter. The run was made possibly by a Point defense that pinned Reinhardt back into their own end of the field for a majority of the opening half.

With the healthy lead, Williams showed her versatility, switching to the ground game and finding the endzone using her feet to bolster the lead to 35-0. That was the only Skyhawks touchdown of the quarter before Reinhardt responded with six points from Nicole Arauz to stop the shutout. At the half, Point held a commanding 238-94 advantage in total yards. Nyleigha Knighton was a defensive star, pulling five flags and snagging an interception in the opening pair of quarters.

In the third, the Eagles found a crack in Williams' armor with Kamari Tansiel running back a pickoff before a successful one-point conversion shrunk Point's lead to 35-13. However, their momentum would be cut off on the ensuing drive when Williams and Prather connected in the endzone for the second time of the day. Quarter three concluded with Shaheed picking up an interception to accompany her seven receptions at the time.

The fourth quarter saw the action sway the way of the Eagles. Reinhardt's Caliyah Davis produced a pick-six on the opening play and they followed it up with Tansiel's second interception. That led to a Victoria Salmon touchdown pass that made it a 42-27 ballgame. Despite the Skyhawks' sudden struggles, Knighton fought her way across the goal line for six on a lateral from Prather before Point's defense drained the clock and put away Reinhardt for good.

The Skyhawks concluded the game with 449 yards gained, led by Phillian with 110 of them. Williams was 33-53 in passing, picking up 388 yards in the air. Shaheed was Point's reception leader with a total of 10 catches while Prather left the field with a team-best three touchdowns.

Point University will bring their two-game win streak back home in preparation for their clash with LaGrange College next Saturday, February 28. The action begins at 4:30pm at River Bowl Stadium in West Point.
