Skyhawks Stage Comeback, Falter in Double Overtime at Huntingdon
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Point University pushed the Huntingdon College Hawks to the brink with a late fourth-quarter rally, but the Skyhawks ultimately fell 19-13 in double overtime on Friday afternoon at Huntingdon.
After the teams remained tied 13-13 through regulation and a scoreless first overtime, Huntingdon quarterback Kennedi Young capped her day with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Kylah Rome, providing the decisive score and handing the Skyhawks a narrow road defeat despite a strong defensive effort and a furious late comeback.
Through regulation, the Skyhawks defense kept the game within one score with key stops, including navigating around a late-second-quarter interception when Chinera Shaheed picked off a pass at the Point 19 and returned it to the 15-yard line.
Quarterback Corriah Williams found receptions in 20 of her 34 passes, totaling 142 yards. Kenzie Phillian scored both touchdowns for the Skyhawks at 7:00 and 2:30 of the fourth quarter.
Fittingly, the totals in multiple categories were as even as you could make them between the two sides. Huntingdon had a 233-232 edge in total offensive yards and a 28-27 lead in pass completions. The loss sent Point to 3-2, breaking up their three-game win streak. Huntingdon has now won five of their seven games this season.
The Skyhawks will play their second game in as many days tomorrow at 2:00pm EST for a road matchup in Montgomery with Alabama State University.
