Skyhawks Shut Out by Warner
LAKE WALES, Fla. – For the first time of the season, the Point University Skyhawks were held off the scoreboard in a game on Friday afternoon, losing 59-0 to the Warner University Royals at Tye Athletic Field.
Point moved the ball through the short passing game and finished with 190 yards through the air on 29 completions, but turnovers and stalled drives prevented the Skyhawks from capitalizing on offensive possessions.
Their offense leaned heavily on receptions, attempting 46 throws on the afternoon between Corriah Williams (34) and Amara Davila (12). Point picked up 10 first downs against a Warner team that has now not allowed a point in 10 games played this season. Four interceptions and a limited rushing attack — eight attempts for minus-7 yards — made it difficult for the Skyhawks to sustain drives, especially as Warner continued to score on short fields.
Wide receiver and specialist Kenzie Phillian delivered one of the most complete performances for the Skyhawks. She led Point with 11 receptions for 77 yards, repeatedly providing a reliable target. On special teams, Phillian handled all four punts, totaling 103 yards, and was active defensively as well, finishing with a team-high seven tackles.
On defense, the Skyhawks forced Warner to work through regulation, finishing with three sacks. Keirra Thomas returned the ball 24 yards on Point's lone interception of the day.
The loss gives the Skyhawks a 4-3 record overall and moves them to 1-1 in SUN Conference play. The Skyhawks' Florida trip concludes tomorrow with a noon start against Webber International in Babson Park.
