Skyhawks Score Touchdown in Each Quarter in 26–12 Win Over Brewton-Parker
MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Point University Skyhawks opened fast, controlled most of the game and got the late score they needed Saturday morning, topping the Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons 26-12. The Skyhawks built a 20-point lead before Brewton reduced the final margin with a touchdown in the closing seconds.
The first big play came in the first quarter, when Corriah Williams connected with Nyleigha Knighton for a 63-yard touchdown with 2:59 left for a 6-0 lead. Point added to it at the start of the second quarter with Chinera Shaheed finding the end zone on a scoring play from Williams, and the successful point-after try pushed the advantage to 13-0. Brewton-Parker answered later in the quarter on Keshauna Gusby's rushing touchdown with 3:56 remaining, cutting the deficit to 13-6 by halftime.
Point regained control in the third quarter. Williams hit Leah Prather for a touchdown with 10:19 left in the quarter, and another successful PAT made it 20-6. Prather was one of Williams' most reliable targets throughout the game, finishing with eight catches for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Shaheed also delivered a strong all-around performance, totaling seven receptions for 60 yards and a receiving touchdown while adding 10 rushing yards and a rushing score.
Williams went 22 of 37, passing for 233 yards and three touchdowns as Point totaled 247 yards on 43 plays. Point also made key stops defensively, forcing multiple turnovers as the Barons managed 126 total yards on 39 plays.
Shaheed's late touchdown catch from Williams with 38 seconds left stretched the margin to 26-6 and effectively sealed the outcome, but the Barons produced one final highlight when Kennedy Osborn returned an interception 78 yards for a touchdown with 21 seconds left, setting the final score.
The Skyhawks' two interceptions came from Shaheed and Kenzie Phillian. Zykierria Williams led the charge defensively with seven total tackles, including six total stops and two assists.
Now 6-6 overall, Point will try to rise back above the .500 mark with a Thursday, April 2 home game against Life University. The first snap will be at 5:00pm at West Point Park.
