Men's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Brewton-Parker

WEST POINT, Ga.Kenton Steele's double-double performance was not enough as the Point University men's basketball team fell 73-68 to conference and instate foe Brewton-Parker Christian University this afternoon. The Skyhawks are now 4-4 and 1-2 in the conference, while the Barons move to 8-2 on the season and 2-1 in the SSAC.

The Baron's wasted no time as they opened the game on a 6-0 run, but a layup from Steele put Point on the board with 15:18 on the clock. Brewton-Parker used a 13-5 run to push its lead to 19-7 with just under nine and a half left to go in the first.  Point clawed its way back as it cut the lead to two when Tanner Higgins drained a three-pointer with 3:44 off a pass from Brandon Kincaid to trail 26-24. With a little over two minutes left in the half, the Skyhawks cut the lead to one following Higgins' layup to make it 30-29. The Barons used a 4-2 run to close out the half and take a 34-31 lead in the locker.

Coming out of halftime, Point wasted no time as Steele hit a three to tie the game at 34 just 30 seconds in. The Skyhawks kept the game to single digits for most of the second to trail 49-42 with just over 15 minutes remaining.  The Barons slowly pushed their lead to 56-46 and then used a 7-3 run to increase their lead to 63-49 with 8:37 left in the game.  Point worked its way back into it to trail 66-63 with 3:02 to go, but it would not be enough as the Barons pushed their lead to 73-68 with eight seconds. The Skyhawks called a timeout with seven seconds left, but an offensive turnover secured the 73-68 win for the Barons.

Point tallied 13 points on second chances to the Barons' six for the contest.

Steele paced the Skyhawks in points with 28 and on the boards with 13. He was 10 of 18 from the field and 3 of 6 from the three-point range.

Teammate Kaden Paul finished with 14 points while going 5 of 11 from the floor. He tallied five boards and one of the team's two blocks.

Cahlib Edwards led the team in assists with seven.

Point is on the road Tuesday, Dec. 9th at 7:30 p.m. when it faces Shorter College.
