Skyhawks Fall at Shorter University

Skyhawks Fall at Shorter University

ROME, Ga. – Point University fell 98-84 on the road to NCAA Division II Shorter University in an exhibition tonight despite a double-double performance from Kenton Steele.

Shorter turned the ball over six seconds into the game, which allowed Steele to drain a three and then follow up 11 seconds later with a jumper to put Point in front 5-0 with 19:13 on the clock. The Hawks cut the lead to 5-4, but a layup and a free throw from Brandon Kincaid gave the Skyhawks some breathing room to make it 8-4 with just over ten and a half to go in the first.  Shorter used a 29-12 run to take a 33-20 lead with 6:59 left to go. Tae Story hit a three ball to end the Hawks' run. The Hawks responded as they put together another run to push the lead to 52-31 with 2:30 on the clock. Point strung together an 11-2 run to cut the lead to eight going into halftime.

The Hawks wasted no time getting on the board in the second half as they added to their lead to make it 74-57 with just over 10 minutes to play. Point attempted to chip away, but it was not enough as Shorter kept the Skyhawks at bay, leading 83-64. The lead was too much for Point to overcome as Shorter went on to win 98-84.

Point won the battle on the boards 32 to 28 and outshot them 80 percent to 58.6 percent from the line.

Steele tallied 38 points and 10 boards for a double-double to pace the Skyhawks. He was 13 of 23 from the field and 8 of 9 from the line.

Teammate Tanner Higgins recorded 17 points while leading the team from three, going 5 of 7. He added four rebounds in the process.

Kaden Paul finished the night with 12 points and a team-high four assists.

Point is back home on Thursday, Dec 11th, when it hosts Webber International at 7:30 p.m.
