Point Skyhawks dropped in midweek double-header at Brenau
Gainsville, Ga.(Feb. 18, 2025)- The Point University Softball team traveled to Brenau on Tuesday for a midweek double-header where the Skyhawks got swept 2-0 in the series.
Game One (loss 6-3)
The match saw notable performances from Sarah Hinely, Natalie Lovelace, and Isabella Owens, who each crossed the plate to score for Point University. Lovelace also contributed an RBI along with Chole Mitcham, who added two more to the tally. Mitcham, also the starting pitcher for the Skyhawks, threw for 4.2 innings and struck out two batters but allowed four earned runs on nine hits. The Skyhawks initially set a strong pace, generating all their three runs in the second inning. However, Brenau responded robustly in the latter half with three runs in the fifth inning followed by an additional two runs in the sixth, ultimately securing the win.
Game Two (loss 11-2)
The Point University Skyhawks faced a tough loss against Brenau (GA) with a score of 11-2 at Brenau University. Despite putting forth a resilient fight, the Skyhawks could not overcome Brenau's offensive surge, particularly during a pivotal moment in the second inning. Starting pitcher Alyssa Burrows struggled to contain Brenau's hitters, who managed to rack up an impressive 11 runs. Brenau's dominance was most notable in the second inning when they scored five runs, including a key triple by P. Hawkins that drove in three runs. This pivotal moment was crucial in setting the tone for the rest of the contest. From the Skyhawks' side, Taylor Gajdik and Brooke Burkett both scored runs, while Caylee Quarles contributed with an RBI.
