Point University Skyhawks Fall to Brewton-Parker Barons

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 22nd, 2025) - In a tense conference showdown, the Point University Skyhawks were edged out by the Brewton-Parker Barons with a final score of 2-1 and the second match 10-2.  

Game One (2-1, Loss) 
 
Despite the valiant efforts of the Skyhawks, the game ultimately tipped in favor of Brewton-Parker with a final score of 2-1. Highlighting the game for Point University was MaKenzie Gilliland, who delivered a standout performance with a home run that brought the Skyhawks their lone run of the game. Gilliland's exceptional play did not stop there; she was also responsible for the team's only RBI. Her contribution provided a vital spark and was a key moment, momentarily lifting team spirit with her powerful hit over the fence. 
 
Point University's starting pitcher, Alyssa Burrows, showed resilience and skill, pitching all 7 innings. During her tenure on the mound, Burrows allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs while recording 2 strikeouts. Despite the narrow loss, her performance exemplified the gritty determination Point University is known for. 
 

Game Two (10-2, Loss) 

In the second game of the double header, the Skyhawks faced a challenging defeat against the Barons, losing 10-2 in a pivotal conference softball faceoff. 
 
Point University's starting pitcher, Chloe Mitcham, delivered a determined performance, but the Barons' lineup proved to be formidable. The home team's offensive highlights included impressive plays by Taylor Gajdik and Natalie Lovelace, who each scored runs to rally the team. Additionally, Brooke Burkett and Kacy Partridge contributed crucial RBIs, with memorable moments unfolding in the 6th inning when the team scored both of their runs. Despite their efforts, the Skyhawks were unable to overcome Brewton-Parker's lead.

Looking forward, the Skyhawks are set to face Abraham Baldwin in a doubleheader on March 1, 2025, in Tifton, Georgia at 2:00 and 4:00 P.M.
