Skyhawk Softball Falls in First Game of Cola Classic Round Robin

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Point University softball team suffered its first loss of the young 2026 season on Friday afternoon, falling 7-5 to Brenau University in the first game of the Cola Classic Round Robin hosted by Columbia College.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Brenau jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning of play

  • The Skyhawks plated three runs in the top of the third as senior Taylor Gajdik, sophomore Sarah Hinley, and freshman Aubryn Sward each drove in a run.

  • The Tigers responded with two runs of their own in the home half of the third to even the score at 3-3.

  • Hinley drove in another run with an RBI double in the fourth, followed by an RBI from junior Mackenzie Diaz in the top of the sixth to put Point ahead 5-3

  • In the seventh, Brenau tallied four runs on four hits to take a two-run lead before the Skyhawks went down in order in the seventh to end the game.

NOTES

  • Senior Chloe Mitcham started in the circle and gave up just one run on two hits with a strikeout across two innings of work.

  • Gajdik pitched a scoreless inning of relief while also recording an RBI

  • Junior Alexa McCoy was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, while senior Natalie Lovelace was 2-for-2 with a double.
