Skyhawk Softball Falls in First Game of Cola Classic Round Robin
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Point University softball team suffered its first loss of the young 2026 season on Friday afternoon, falling 7-5 to Brenau University in the first game of the Cola Classic Round Robin hosted by Columbia College.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Brenau jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning of play

The Skyhawks plated three runs in the top of the third as senior Taylor Gajdik, sophomore Sarah Hinley, and freshman Aubryn Sward each drove in a run.

The Tigers responded with two runs of their own in the home half of the third to even the score at 3-3.

Hinley drove in another run with an RBI double in the fourth, followed by an RBI from junior Mackenzie Diaz in the top of the sixth to put Point ahead 5-3

In the seventh, Brenau tallied four runs on four hits to take a two-run lead before the Skyhawks went down in order in the seventh to end the game.

Senior Chloe Mitcham started in the circle and gave up just one run on two hits with a strikeout across two innings of work.

Gajdik pitched a scoreless inning of relief while also recording an RBI

Junior Alexa McCoy was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, while senior Natalie Lovelace was 2-for-2 with a double.
