Mataea Boyd’s record setting weekend earns her SSAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 6, 2023) -The Southern States Athletic Conference named the SSAC Men's and Women's Basketball Player of the Week awards where Mataea Boyd won the award on the women's side.  

The Senior from Waycross, Georgia broke the school record for most points scored in a single game with 39 Points with the original record of 37. Boyd is coming into the season with a mindset of helping lead her team into another championship as the Skyhawks enter the Southern States Athletic Conference. In Boyd's second season at Point, she has already added a multitude of accolades to her resume. Her accomplishments include AAC Newcomer of the Year, First-Team All-Conference, All-Defensive Team, AAC Offensive Player of the Week (1), Most Points scored in a single game (39), and SSAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week (1). Boyd also was 7-11 from the three-point line and was two made threes away from breaking the all-time record for the most made three-pointers in a single game. Mataea Boyd is just now getting started on her senior season and is picking up where she left off along with making a name for herself even more in the new conference. Her impact will not come as a surprise to her peers if she is to rack up more awards as the season goes on.
