Point Women’s Basketball Unable to Overcome the Eagles

WALESKA, Ga. (Nov. 2nd, 2024)—The Point University Women's basketball team traveled to Reinhardt to compete on the court. The Eagles overcame the Skyhawks by two points, with a final score of 68-66. 

The Skyhawks opened the first quarter with a jump shot by Shakira Wilson followed by a 3-pt. jump shot assisted by Jada Williams. The Eagles responded making their jump shots. The Skyhawks kept the lead in the beginning but the Eagles managed to end the first quarter two points ahead at 18-16. During the second quarter, both the Skyhawks and Eagles maintained a tight score, each gaining back-to-back points. Zaria Johnson made multiple blocks leading up to Shakira Wilson making a jump shot assisted by Lanee Edwards that tied the score 32-32 at the end of the half. 

The fourth quarter started tied again at 50-50. Mineesha Wallace makes a layup taking the lead back in the game. However, the Eagles reaching for the same opportunity make their layup tying the score again. Both teams continue gained points back to back making the score incredibly tight and the game more intense. The Eagles gained the lead for a while, but after a timeout by Point, the Skyhawks began fighting harder. Antonia Pittman reigniting the energy, makes a jump shot which fires up the rest of the team to gain more points forcing Reinhardt to take a full timeout. With the Skyhawks one point behind with less than six seconds on the clock, Reinhardt earned a free throw that ended the game at 68-66.

Shakira Wilson led with 28 points and nine rebounds. Zaria Johnson added 12 points.
