Skyhawks Falter In Second Half
WEST POINT, Ga. - - Brewton Parker turned a 10-point halftime lead into a 76-47 women's basketball triumph Saturday afternoon. Five Barons recorded double figures, led by Andrian Stewart who led all players with 17 points off the bench. The win halted an eight-game losing streak by Brewton Parker to begin the year.
The guests outscored the hosts 20-to-10 in the third period to build a 20-point advantage heading to the final period of play. The lead would prove to be too much to overcome for the Skyhawks who were limited to 30.8 percent shooting for the game.
Zaria Johnson netted 10 points off the bench as she joined teammate Carmen Bridges for team-high rebounding honors with seven.
Brewton Parker's Andranique Stewart led all players with eight rebounds as the Barons won the battle of the boards 47-to-40.
Jasmine Leonard scored all of her 10 points in the first quarter to aid the Barons to a seven point advantage after the opening 10 minutes. Point would get within four with just over five minutes to play in the first half on a 3-pointer from Bridges but, it would be as close as the Skyhawks would get.
Brewton Parker would close the half on a 12-to-6 scoring spurt to build the 10-point halftime edge en route to the win.
Next up, the Skyhawks will travel to Jacksonville State University for a 3:30 p.m. tip next Saturday.
