Early Lead Evaporates In Loss To Life
WEST POINT, Ga. - - Life overcame an early five-point deficit to score a 63-45 victory over Point in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon. The victorious Running Eagles were led by Aniyah Offutt's game-high 25 points.
The Skyhawks jumped out early behind a solid defensive effort that saw the guests go over four minutes without scoring. Life's scoring lull allowed Point to go on a 10-0 scoring spurt and build a 10-2 lead.
By halftime, the tide had changed with Life outscoring Point 24-to-10 in the second quarter to build a 35-26 lead going to intermission.
The Skyhawks would fall behind by as many as 21 points in the second half as the team would be unable to overcome 32 turnovers.
Carmen Bridges finished a rebound shy of a double-double as she netted a team-best 12 points.
Point shot over 40 percent from the floor but the turnovers and losing the rebounding battle 40-to-31 proved problematic.
Life had six women grab five or more rebounds to spur the rebounding charge as the team completed a season-series sweep.
The Skyhawks return to play Monday at 5 p.m. when the team visits Talladega.
