Skyhawks Unable To Hang On Late

WEST POINT, Ga. - - A fatal final minute prevented the women's basketball team at Point from securing its first win of the season Saturday. Abraham Baldwin scored the final eight points of the contest in the final 60 seconds to post the 67-61 victory.

Aniyah Wesley gave the Skyhawks a two-point lead at 61-59 when she sank two free throws with a minute to go before the game slipped away.

A possession later, Abraham Baldwin's Reese Riddle made a 3-pointer to give her squad the lead back at 62-61. Point's offensive would fade away as a turnover, a pair of missed foul shots and a missed 3-pointer allowed the guests to pull away for the win.

Shakira Chaney scored a game-high 29 points for the Thunder to help offset one of the more balanced scoring days of the season by the Skyhawks.

Point placed four players in double-figures led by Zariah Fannin's 15. Madison Nesbitt added 13 points while Aniyah Wesley and Carmen Bridges tacked on 10 points each.

The game was close throughout with the Skyhawks leading 31-29 at intermission before the game was tied going to the fourth quarter.

Riddle added 18 points with Dailey Jefferson corralling a game-high 11 rebounds for the winners.

Next up for the Skyhawks is a trip to Mobile Thursday. Tip time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
