Rams Use Balanced Scoring To Defeat Skyhawks
MOBILE, Ala. - - Host Mobile outscored visiting Point by 24 points over the second and third quarter en route to an 86-49 women's basketball victory Thursday. Five Rams finished in double-figure scoring in the win, led by Cierra Highland's 14 points.
Point's Aniyah Wesley scored six first quarter points to keep the Skyhawks within reach early. Point trailed by a single point at 15-14 after the opening 10 minutes of play.
Mobile would turn up the pressure in the second quarter by forcing 10 turnovers. The extra possessions would lead to seven of Highland's 14 points on the evening and give the Rams a 36-24 lead at intermission.
The hosts would enjoy their best quarter of the game to start the second half. Mobile would shot 60 percent from the field in the third period to extend the lead to 61-35 as Emilee Duet scored nine points during the period.
Carmen Bridges led the Skyhawks with 16 points with Wesley adding 10 to be the two women in double-figure scoring in defeat.
Highland was joined in double-figure scoring by Duet (11), McKenna Sinon (11), Deja Pryor (10) and Marionna Pontonou (10). Overall, the Rams made eight long range shots and forced 29 turnovers to secure their first league win of the season.
Point will return to play on Saturday at Faulkner. Tip time is slated for 1 p.m.
