Fast Starting Eagles Too Strong For Skyhawks
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - - Host Faulkner used a 23-point first quarter to claim a 77-45 women's basketball victory over Point at Tine Davis Gymnasium Saturday.
Ruthie Smith scored 13 of her game-high 22 points in the opening quarter to aid Faulkner to a 15-point advantage after the opening 10 minutes. From there, the Skyhawks would be unable to get back in the game as the Eagles would lead by as many as 35 points in the fourth quarter.
Faulkner controlled the glass by a 48-to-25 margin as the Eagles' Sydney Steward came off the bench to record a game-best 10 rebounds. Faulkner held Point to 28.8 shooting overall and a 5-for-20 showing from the 3-point line.
Carmen Bridges scored 14 points and picked up nine rebounds to lead the Skyhawks while Zariah Fannin added 10 points in defeat.
Avery Rogers and Addison Cantrell had 12 points each to join Smith in double figure scoring in the win as Faulkner improved to 12-6 on the season.
Point will be back in action Thursday at Loyola. Tip time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
