Skyhawks fall to Union in AAC road matchup

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 16, 2021) – The Point University volleyball team traveled to Union College Saturday afternoon for an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup and fell to the Bulldogs in straight sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-23).

A 9-1 opening run by Union would set the tone for Saturday's opening set, as the Bulldogs worked their lead out exponentially. Point attempted a late-game comeback as the Skyhawks used a 6-2 run to trail by one (23-22), but the Bulldogs were able to secure the final two points of the set and earn a 1-0 lead.

In the second stanza, Union scored 21 of their 25 points off kills to earn a decisive victory.

The third set featured a resilient Skyhawk squad, as Point looked to avoid the sweep, leading 23-22 late in the set, but three consecutive kills by Union secured the Bulldog's victory.

Te'a Owens led Point's offense with ten kills and recorded eight digs in defensive effort. Three Skyhawks had double-digit digs, with Whitney Ward and Madison Bentley recording 15 apiece and Kaitlyn Hawke recording 14 digs along with 25 assists for her ninth double-double of the season.
