Point Baseball collects All-Conference Honors

WEST POINT, Ga. (Apr. 30, 2024) - The Southern States Athletic Conference announced Postseason awards for the 2024 Season. The Point University Baseball Team was represented well in All-Conference, Gold Glove, All-Academic, and Champions of Character. 

SSAC Pitcher of the Year/First Team All-Conference: Cameron Seiwert 

The Senior from Jacksonville, Florida has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher and First Team All-Conference. Seiwert leaped into the 2024 Season in being a top player on the mound like he believed he could. Cam Seiwert opened the season with a seven-strikeout shutout earning him his first SSAC Pitcher of the Week award. Seiwert kept the composure of wanting to win and be consistent. Cameron Seiwert proved that his opening-day performance was only a sample of what was to come. In the weekend series at UT Southern, Seiwert broke a program record for 16 strikeouts in a single game. He was awarded with his second weekly honor for Pitcher of the Week on the season. Seiwert continued to excel on the mound surpassed 100 strikeouts on the season and tied a program record for wins with 11. Seiwert's Pitcher of the Year award is the first time in program history that a player has been named a Player of the Year award. Seiwert will turn his attention to the SSAC Tournament and continue to help his team push for a Championship. 

SSAC Newcomer of the Year/First Team All-Conference: Julio Lopez 

Dominic Julio Lopez has started his week with another accolade as he earned SSAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, April 29. Lopez earns his flowers with consistency on the mound and follows with being named Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference. The Senior from Long Beach, California came as a newcomer from California State University, Dominguez Hills, and immediately impacted the pitching staff. Lopez earned eight wins while pitching six complete games with two consecutive wins being shutouts. Lopez is second on the team in strikeouts of 51 and has an ERA of 2.68. Julio Lopez's humility prepares him for the moment and contributes each time he steps on the field. Lopez's journey to lead him from California to Georgia has added more upside to his two accomplishments. Lopez will turn his to the SSAC Tournament where he looks to continue what he does best. 

SSAC First Team All-Conference/Gold Glove: Rafael Jackson 

Rafael "Kenny" Jackson is an explosive player that makes his presence felt when he steps on the field. The Junior from the Virgin Islands was a newcomer from Gordon State College looking to add to his resume at Point University. Rafael Jackson earning a spot on First Team All-Conference and Gold Glove award proved that he was a great addition to the Point University Baseball program. Jackson added 56 hits, 21 doubles, 10 home runs, 49 RBIs, and a batting average of .344. The Junior Outfielder was awarded a weekly honor award of SSAC Player of the Week on April 8th after a three home-run weekend with 10 RBIs. Jackson's IQ and consistency at bat added pressure to opposing pitchers each time he appeared at bat. With his first season with Point Baseball still in play, Jackson is looking to create more magic as the Skyhawks enter the SSAC Tournament as the #3 seed.  

SSAC First Team All-Conference/Golf Glove: Alex Marquand 

The Senior from Columbus, Georgia was a key returner that was coming off a Second-Team All-Conference year in the 2023 Season. Marquand put the previous season behind him and returned to work where he elevated his play. Alex Marquand added 60 hits, 12 doubles, five home runs, 46 RBIs, and a .377 batting average which was his best season in a Skyhawk Uniform. Alex Marquand's field experience contributed to him being the best player that he could be when he stepped on the field. Marquand adds more of a case on his resume with a First Team All-Conference honor and Gold Glove. With Marquand being a top catcher in the Conference, his mindset to step up in crucial moments gained attention around the conference. 

Champions of Character: Sage McWaters 

The Senior from Panama City, Florida is a well-deserving Student-Athlete who exemplifies the five core values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Servant Leadership, and Sportsmanship. McWaters is well-respected around the program and a hard worker who has contributed to Point leaping over the field this season. Sage McWaters is always ready when his name is called to step on the mound and he is a player off the field that shows respect for everyone around him. Sage McWaters earning Champions of Character adds to his resume of being a great overall person and Student-Athlete.
