Skyhawks Force Three Turnovers To Defeat Knights
GRAYSON, Ky. - - David Hines passed for 341 yards and two touchdowns as Point scored the final 20 points of Saturday's game en route to a 41-20 victory over Kentucky Christian at Knights Stadium. With the win, the Skyhawks (4-6, 4-2 AAC) finished tied for second in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and finished the year with triumphs in four of the season's final six contests.
Leading 21-20 with less than a minute to play in the opening half, Point moved the ball deep into KCU territory allowing Harold Maloof to boot a 24-yard field goal on the final play of the opening half to give the visitors a four-point edge heading into intermission.
The second half belonged to the Skyhawks, Hines hooked up with Derrick Lum for an 85-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to double digits before a 37-yard field goal by Maloof gave the team a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter.
The final points of the day came on an 8-yard touchdown reception by Brandon Washing to provide the winning margin of 41-20 after Maloof's conversion kick.
KCU had leads of 6-0 and 14-7 by virtue of a pair of touchdown passes from Jackson Wasik but a 3-yard touchdown run from Treyvon Copelan and an interception by Kyan Maloy that he returned 30 yards for a touchdown gave Point a lead it would not relinquish.
Hakeem Hodges gained 66 yards on just nine carries to lead a balanced Skyhawks rushing attack. Copelan added 61 yards with Hines tacking on 13 rushing yards for the winners.
Quintravious Tre was Hines' favorite receiving target on the day as the receiver finished with a game-high seven catches and 104 receiving yards.
Waskik led the offensive charge for the Knights as he passed for 304 yards and gained 89 more on the ground.
Point's defense picked off a trio of passes with Jakari Nobles collecting two interceptions while Cortez Thomas recorded a pair of sacks.
KCU outgained Point 497-to-483 but lost the turnover battle 3-to-1 in what was the season finale for both schools.
The Skyhawks were a perfect 4-for-4 on fourth down conversion attempts in the contest while being forced to punt just once and being assessed only three penalties.
It was Point's fourth consecutive victory over KCU.
