Late Strike Highlights Point’s Fight in Loss at Webber International
BABSON PARK, Fla. - Point University's late touchdown from Aniyah Wesley was not enough to overcome a steady Webber International offense at the Warrior Turf Field, as the Skyhawks fell 20-6 on Saturday afternoon. The 66-yard long ball from quarterback Corriah Williams to receiver Aniyah Wesley in the final minute put Point on the board with 46 seconds to play in regulation.
Webber broke a scoreless game late in the second quarter, capitalizing on field position in a half defined by turnovers. With 2:53 remaining before halftime, quarterback Brylee Kamm found Ijyana Edwards for an 11-yard touchdown to give Webber a 6-0 lead after the missed PAT. Earlier in the quarter, Point defensive back Keirra Thomas had intercepted Luzariana Herrera at the Skyhawks' 22-yard line, briefly swinging momentum before Webber offense answered back.
The third quarter tilted further toward Webber as Herrera settled in. At the 6:00 mark, she delivered a scoring pass that, combined with a successful PAT, extended the advantage to 12-0. Point's defense continued to battle, with Leah Prather picking off Herrera and returning the interception 16 yards to the Webber 28 to stop another potential scoring drive. Despite those takeaways, the Skyhawks were unable to convert turnovers into points until the game's closing seconds.
Webber widened the gap in the fourth quarter behind a balanced passing attack. With time winding down, Kamm connected with Rylee Bolser on a 4-yard touchdown with 58 seconds left, pushing the lead to 20-0. Point's ensuing drive ended in another setback, as Webber's Kaitlyn Sigmundi intercepted Williams and returned the ball to the Skyhawks' 25 at the 4:37 mark, stalling a promising late push.
Williams finished 24 of 38 passing for 232 yards and one touchdown, adding 13 rushing yards on four attempts. Her most frequent target was Nyleigha Knighton, as those two teamed up on passes six times. Knighton stretched 39 yards out of those catches and led the Skyhawks with seven tackles.
Point is trying to make their first losing streak of the season a short-lived one, with their next game being back at home on Tuesday, March 17 against the Keiser University Seahawks. River Bowl Stadium will host the action at 3:00pm EDT in West Point.
