Men's Basketball Falls at Talladega

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Point University men's basketball team suffered a 105-78 loss on the road to Talladega College tonight. The Skyhawks drop to 4-3 on the season, while the Tornadoes improve to 4-4.

Talladega wasted no time as it opened up the game on a 10-0 run in less than three minutes.  Point called a timeout to reset itself, coming out of the timeout Tanner Higgins hit a three to get the Skyhawks on the board with 16:44 on the clock.  Robert Harris, 20 seconds later, hit the Skyhawk's second three to cut the lead to four. Both teams went scoreless for more than two minutes, but the drought ended as Yuta Yamamoto hit the team's third straight three-pointer to make it a 10-9 game with 14:12 left in the half. The Tornadoes were able to put together a 14-6 run to push their lead to 24-15 with just over eight minutes to go. Point worked to keep the game to single digits as it trailed 33-24 with 4:22 to go on the clock, but it was not enough as Talladega took a 45-35 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the locker room, Talladega used an 8-3 run to start the second half and push its lead to 53-38. The Skyhawks worked their way back to trail 56-44 with 14:46 left in the contest, but that is as close as it would get as the Tornadoes pushed the lead to 66-46 with just over eleven minutes to go. Talladega, after that, never looked back as it secured the victory 105-78.

The Skyhawks finished with three players in double figures, with Cahlib Edwards pacing the team with 21 points. He led the team from the line, going 10 of 15, while shooting 5 of 10 from the floor.

Both Tanner Higgins and Kenton Steele each tallied 16 points. Steele grabbed a team-high seven boards and five assists.

Harris, who came off the bench, finished with eight points, while drained two of the team's 10 threes.

Point is back home this Saturday at 2 p.m. when it hosts conference rival Brewton-Parker Christian University.
