Late Three Lifts Men's Basketball Over Webber International
WEST POINT, Ga. – Cahlib Edwards' game-winning three-pointer with time expiring lifts Point University men's basketball to an 82-80 win over Webber International University tonight at home. With the win, the Skyhawks are now 5-4 on the season, while the Warriors drop to 5-6 on the season.
Leading 5-4 in the first half, Kaden Paul forced a turnover in the paint to lay it in for two to push the Point lead to 7-4 with 17:19 to go. The Warriors kept the contest close and answered with a layup of their own to trail by one. With both teams tied at 10 and just over nine and a half left in the first, the Warriors were able to grab a 21-20 lead. WIU used a 9-6 run to push its lead to 30-26, and later took a 43-34 lead into halftime.
The Skyhawks attempted to chip away at the lead for most of the second half, cutting the lead to 68-62 with 7:02 left in the game. Point then put together an 11-8 run to trail 76-73 with exactly three minutes to go. With under two minutes left in the contest, Kenton Steele got on a fast break to cut the lead to one and trail 76-75. Both teams traded points with the Skyhawks taking a 79-78 lead, but the Warriors took the lead after hitting a pair of foul shots with two seconds left. Coming out of a 30-second timeout, Point was able to get the ball in Edwards' hands as he hit a three-pointer as the clock hit zero to give the Skyhawks the victory.
Both teams grabbed 28 boards, with Point grabbing 10 offensive rebounds to the Warriors' eight.
Edwards led the Skyhawks in points with 21 while going 9 of 14 from the floor and 2 of 6 from three.
Steele finished the night with 16 points while dishing out a team-high five assists and grabbing a game-high five boards. He paced the team at the line, going 6 of 7.
Teammates Paul and Tanner Higgins each tallied 11 points. Paul was 5 of 7 from the field, while Higgins was 4 of 8.
Point is back home on Wednesday, Dec 17th, when it hosts conference foe Dalton State at 4 p.m.
