Men's Basketball falls at Home to Dalton State (Ga.)

WEST POINT, Ga. – Three players tallying double figures was not enough as the Point University men's basketball team fell 97-84 to conference rival Dalton State College this afternoon. The Skyhawks fall to 5-5 on the season and 1-3 in the conference, while the Roadrunners are now 8-4 and 3-2 in the SSAC.

Both teams found themselves tied at eight a little over four minutes into the game, but a jumper from the Roadrunners put them back in front to make it 10-8. The Dalton State lead did not last long as Point used a 6-2 run to go up 14-12, but with 12:12 on the clock, the Roadrunners tied the contest again. With just under eleven and a half left in the first half, the teams were tied once again, but Dalton State used a 12-3 run to take a 28-19 lead. Point chipped away at the lead to trail 30-25 with 6:04 remaining, but that is as close as the Skyhawks would come in the first half as the Roadrunners took a 42-36 lead into the locker room.

Point wasted no time getting on the board in the second half as Tanner Higgins hit a three-pointer 17 seconds in to cut the lead to three. Cahlib Edwards followed that up with a jumper off a Dalton State turnover to make it a 42-41 game. The Roadrunners responded, stringing together a 12-7 run to push their lead to 54-48 with 15:35 left in the game. The Skyhawks again clawed back into it as Higgins hit another three-pointer to cut the lead to three, and Robert Harris followed that up with a three of his own following a Dalton State jumper to trail 56-54. Point was able to keep the contest close for most of the half and even cut the lead to one a couple of times.  With 5:53 left in the game and trailing 81-72, Dalton State took control. Even though both teams traded baskets, the Roadrunners were able to come out on top 97-84.

Point from the line shot 18 of 25 for 72 percent compared to Dalton State's 60.9 percent (14 of 23). The Skyhawks edged the Roadrunners out 8 to 7 on three-pointers made for the game.

Dalton State controlled the glass as it grabbed 50 boards to Point's 32. Both teams dished out 13 assists each for the contest.

Kenton Steele finished the contest with a double-double with 22 points and 12 boards. He was 8 of 17 from the floor and 6 of 9 from the line.

Higgins tallied 18 points while grabbing eight rebounds. He led the team in three-pointers with four.

Edwards closed out the contest with 12 points and a game-high four assists. Fellow Teammates Jackson Ary finished with eight points and a team-high four steals, while Kaden Paul added seven points of his own.
