Skyhawks Fall in final game of 2025 to Montevallo
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Point University men's basketball team dropped a 91-61 exhibition loss to NCAA Division II opponent the University of Montevallo late this afternoon on the road.
After trailing 2-0 to start the game, the Skyhawks used a 10-1 run to take a 10-3 lead with just over 17 minutes on the clock. The Falcons worked their way back into it as they cut the lead to one to trail 13-12, but with 14:01 remaining, a layup gave them back the lead 14-13. Montevallo broke the game open using a 13-2 run to make it 27-15 with nine and a half to go. The Skyhawks clawed their way back to cut the lead to single-digits to trail 31-25, but the Falcons pushed their lead back to double-digits using a 20-5 run to make it 51-30 and take a 53-32 lead into the locker room.
Kaden Paul wasted no time to get Point on the board in the second half as he hit a three off a pass from Kenton Steele to make it 53-35 just 41 seconds in. Montevallo answered with its own three to put it back to double figures, but a Deion Subaran three-pointer with 18:06 on the clock cut the lead back to single digits as Point trailed 56-38. The Skyhawks got the lead down to six when Brandon Kincaid laid one in off a pass from Steele to make it 56-40. Montevallo was able to string together a 12-2 run to push its lead to 68-42 with 13:16 left on the clock. The Falcons' defense, for the rest of the game, was able to keep Point at a distance as they captured a 91-61 victory.
Montevallo controlled the glass 45 to 35 while grabbing 11 boards on the offensive end to Points eight.
Point shot 37.5 percent to 30.3 percent from beyond the arc, while both teams were 50 percent from the line.
Robert Harris led Point with 17 points and three's with five. He grabbed four boards in the process.
Teammate Steele finished with 11 points of his own and a team-high eight boards. He was 5 of 12 from the floor and had a game-high four blocks.
Kincaid finished with six points, going a perfect 3 of 3 from the floor, while snagging six rebounds of his own.
Point will start the new year at home on Saturday, Jan 3, when it hosts conference rival Life University at 2 p.m.
