Men's Basketball Falls at Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. –  The Point University men's basketball team dropped its second straight conference game this week with a 111-89 loss to Faulkner University this afternoon. The Skyhawks drop to 6-9 and 2-7 in the SSAC, while the Eagles are now 13-6 and 7-2 on the season.

After the Eagles took a 12-5 lead to open the first half, back-to-back layups from Kenton Steele and Cahlib Edwards cut the lead to three. Point made it a one-point game following a pair of free throws from Kaden Paul. The Skyhawks, less than two minutes later, took their first lead of the game when Tanner Higgins drained a three off a pass from Steele to make it 14-12. Both teams traded baskets, ending up tied at 27, but the Eagles used a 15-7 run to go up 42-34 with 3:36 left in the half.  Faulkner later added to its lead, entering halftime with a 56-39 lead.

Faulkner controlled most of the second half as it pushed the lead to 87-54 with 10:49 left in the game. The Skyhawks attempted to work their way back into the contest, but the lead was too hard to overcome as the Eagles' defense was too strong, and they secured the victory over Point.

Point finished with four players in double figures, with Edwards pacing all of them with 25 points.  He was 8 of 15 from the field and 8 of 8 from the line.

Steele tallied 19 points himself while going 10 of 13 from the line and grabbing six boards in the process. Teammate Higgins finished the contest with 11 of his own and tied for the team led in three-pointers made with three, with Robert Harris. Harris ended the day with nine points.

D'Andre Jefferson registered 10 points and five boards while finishing with a game-high three blocks.

Point is back in action Thursday when it travels to New Orleans to face conference foe Loyola University at 8:30 p.m.
