Skyhawks Win Second Straight Contest with Win Over Blue Mountain Christian

WEST POINT, Ga.Cahlib Edwards and D'Andre Jefferson each tallied a double-double performance, propelling the Point University men's basketball team to a 92-79 conference win over visiting Blue Mountain Christian tonight.  The Skyhawks are 8-11 and 4-9 in the conference, while the Toppers fall to 4-15 and 1-10.

Blue Mountain Christian took an early 4-0 lead to start the game and later pushed its lead to 7-6 with 13:49 to go. Point's Robert Harris gave the Skyhawks the 8-7 lead after hitting a pair of foul shots. The Toppers used a 15-5 run to go back in front and take a 23-12 lead with just over eight minutes left in the first half. Blue Mountain Christian added to its lead to go up 35-19 with just under four minutes left. Point was able to keep the game close as it trailed 40-35 going into halftime.

A minute and thirty-three seconds into the second half, Edwards put Point back in front after hitting a pair of free throws. Both teams exchanged baskets, with the Skyhawks holding a 58-54 lead with 12:20 on the clock. Point then strung together a 17-4 run to break the game open and go up 75-58. The Skyhawks defense took over, keeping the Toppers at a distance as they secured the victory for their second straight win.

The Skyhawks were 11 of 35 (31.4%) from beyond the arc, while going 25 of 32 (78.1%) from the line, and 28 of 64 (43.8%) from the field.

Point controlled the glass, grabbing 47 rebounds to the Toppers' 33. Both teams tallied 13 points off turnovers, but the Skyhawks dominated on second-chance points as they tallied 17 to the Toppers' five.

Edwards finished with 22 points and 11 boards to register a double-double. He was 9 of 10 from the line and 6 of 13 from the floor. Teammate Jefferson finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds of his own.

Kenton Steele added 15 points while going a perfect 4 of 4 from the foul line. He grabbed four rebounds in the process.

Harris tallied a dozen points while Tanner Higgins added 11 points and eight rebounds. Both players led the team in three-pointers made with three apiece.

Point is back home on Thursday, Feb. 5th, when it hosts the University of Mobile at 7:30 p.m.
