Men's Basketball Falls to ABAC
TIFTON, Ga. – The Point University men's basketball team fell 96-87 to conference foe Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College this afternoon. The Skyhawks fall to 10-13 and 6-11 in the conference, while the Stallions move to 5-16 and 2-13.
Both games this season were decided by less than 10 points, with each team going 1-1.
Point took an early 13-5 lead in the first four and a half minutes to start the game. ABAC used a 12-0 to take a 17-13 lead for the first time in the game. Both teams traded baskets for most of the half after that, with the Stallions holding a four-point edge for most of the time. With 2:53 to go in the first, the Skyhawks laid one in from Jackson Ary to cut the lead to one and trail 37-36. Point was able to grab the lead back to go up 41-40 with 1:44 to go, but the Stallions used a pair of free throws to go in front 42-41. ABAC used a 4-2 run to take a 46-43 lead into halftime.
The Stallions, coming out of the locker room, pushed their lead to 60-49. Point attempted to claw its way back, cutting the lead to 68-64 following Kenton Steele's layup with 10:21 left in the game. That would be as close as the Skyhawks would come as ABAC held on to secure the victory.
Steele, for the second straight game, finished with a double-double. He tallied 25 points and 12 rebounds while going 10 of 12 from the line and 7 of 17 from the field.
Cahlib Edwards finished the day with 17 points, and Robert Harris added 15 points of his own. Teammate D'Andre Jefferson tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.
Point will close out the regular season when it hits the road next Saturday to face Brewton-Parker Christian University at 2 p.m.
