Men's Basketball Falls In Final Regular Season Contest
MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Point University men's basketball team dropped its final regular-season game 80-64 on the road to Brewton-Parker Christian University this afternoon. The Skyhawks fell to 10-14 and 6-12 in the conference, while the Barons improved to 19-9 and 11-7.
Point opened up the game with a 9-5 lead, but a foul shot and layup from the Barons cut the lead to one. Both teams exchanged baskets with the Skyhawks holding to a 16-14 lead with 10:18 on the clock. The basket exchange continued for most of the half with both teams ending up tied at 28 with under three minutes to go. The Barons grabbed a 31-28 lead off a three-pointer with 2:37 remaining and were able to close out the half on a 6-2 run to take a 37-30 lead into the locker room.
The Barons opened up the second half by pushing their lead to 50-40 with 14:24 left in the contest. Point attempted to claw back into it, but the lead was too great to overcome as the Barons made it 64-45 with 8:57 on the clock. Brewton-Parker's defense was too strong as it held the Skyhawks to just 19 points for the remainder of the game and locked up the 80-64 win.
Kenton Steele led Point in scoring with 25 points and added six rebounds. He was 8 of 17 from the field and 7 of 8 from the line. Teammate Tanner Higgins added 15 points and grabbed seven boards. Higgins finished with five three-pointers.
Brandon Kincaid finished with a team-high nine rebounds while adding nine points.
Point will not wait to see where it will be seeded in the SSAC Men's Basketball Championship.
