Skyhawks Roll Past Columbia College 16-6
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Point University Skyhawks scored in double digits for the fifth time in their past six games on Wednesday afternoon, dominating their conference matchup against the Columbia College Koalas 16-6 at Younts Stadium.
The Skyhawks came out of the opening face-off guns blazing with a Carlos Thompson goal 2:31 into regulation, assisted by Shaun McLaughlin. Those two swapped spots with 7:30 left in the first quarter when McLaughlin fired in a shot of his own. Point tacked on three additional strikes between one from McLaughlin and a pair from Rodney Oakley as the Skyhawks rode into the second quarter with a 5-1 lead.
Point repeated their early-quarter scoring in the second with Thompson's second of the game (13:07). Malyke Sillers found the net under 10 seconds later for a 7-1 cushion. Within the remainder of the opening half from that point, Columbia's goaltending duo was beaten on shots from Sillers, Jamison Cross and McLaughlin as the board displayed a 10-2 Point advantage midway through.
Sillers sealed his hat trick one minute into the second half and struck again at 5:46. McLaughlin converted on a man-up goal to grow the margin to 13-2 entering the final quarter.
The fourth saw one last attack from Point. Thompson went back-to-back 39 seconds apart and Sillers was responsible for the Skyhawks' final goal in a 16-6 final score.
Oakley was Point's leader in ground balls (4) and shots (13). Thompson's four goals served as a personal season high, and Sillers scored a total of five times while McLaughlin piled up seven points (four goals, three assists).
Whitman Prewitt played 55 minutes of regulation in net, denying 12 of 17 shots faced. Jaden Colabine entered in the final five minutes, stopping two shots and allowing one goal.
The Skyhawks controlled the shots total at 58-32 while leading 21-16 in ground balls and winning 10 of their 23 face-offs. They were 8-9 in clears.
Up ahead, Point will play the visiting SCAD Savannah Bees this Saturday, April 11. Their senior day and final home game of the 2026 regular season starts at 2:00pm EDT at River Bowl Stadium.
