Skyhawks Stun #4 SCAD 13-12 on Senior Day

WEST POINT, Ga. – The seniors of the Point University Skyhawks lacrosse team made their last game at River Bowl Stadium arguably their best one, upsetting the #4 Savannah College of Art and Design Bees behind a game-winning goal from Malyke Sillers with 1:21 left in regulation.

The game turned repeatedly through the first three quarters. Shaun McLaughlin opened the scoring for Point at 10:56 of the first quarter, and Rodney Oakley added another goal later in the quarter, but SCAD answered each push and carried a 3-2 lead into the second. Point twice fought back to tie in the second quarter, first on Oakley's goal at 8:12 and then on McLaughlin's second score of the quarter at 2:54, only for SCAD Savannah to take a 7-6 halftime lead on Jonathan O'Bryant Graves' late goal with 12 seconds left.

SCAD extended that advantage in the third quarter and appeared to seize control. Sebastian Manuel scored early in the quarter, Oakley answered for Point at 9:34, but Noah Moreland struck twice, including a goal with 33 seconds left in the quarter, to give SCAD a 10-7 edge entering the fourth. Moreland led the visitors with four goals and one assist, while Manuel added two goals and two assists.

Point's rally came quickly. Zachary Covey scored at 14:15 and again at 12:34 of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to one. After SCAD goals from Eli Philips and Manuel kept the Skyhawks behind, Point answered each time. Sillers scored at 8:03 to make it 11-10, Covey completed his hat trick at 6:55 to trim the margin to 12-11, and D'Ontae Eatmon tied the game at 12-12 with 4:06 remaining. Sillers then delivered the winner with 1:21 left, capping the decisive stretch.

Oakley finished with four goals for Point, while McLaughlin and Covey scored three apiece. The Skyhawks also got a key lift in possession and in goal. Point held a 15-14 edge in faceoffs and matched SCAD with 21 ground balls. Defensively, Point's goalie totaled 16 saves, compared with six for SCAD Savannah, a difference that helped keep the game within reach long enough for the fourth-quarter comeback.

SCAD outshot Point 49-34 and put 28 shots on goal, but the Skyhawks made the most of their chances with 13 goals on 19 shots on frame. The teams were scoreless on man-up opportunities, while Point finished 12 of 15 on clears.

The Skyhawks will play their final two games of the regular season on the road, beginning with a Thursday, April 16 tilt against Reinhardt University at 4:00pm EDT.
