Men’s Soccer ties with Middle Georgia in SSAC Opener
WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 18, 2024) - The Point University Men's Soccer team returned to the pitch for an evening Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Middle Georgia State University where the Skyhawks concluded the match in a draw against the Knights.
The first minute saw the Skyhawks jump on the scoreboard first with Joao Tiago Sousa connecting with Moritz Dalpiaz for the opening goal to put the Skyhawks ahead. Middle Georgia looked to match the intensity of Point but would only be able to take three shots in the first half. The Skyhawks remained in the lead with a 1-0 score to go into halftime looking to add adjustments. The second half opened with both teams being more aggressive on the offensive end. The Knights continued to find ways to add pressure to Point's defense which paid dividends as Middle Georgia capitalized on an error to tie the game. Both opponents looked to add more drama to SSAC Play with a potential game-winner but the score remained as a tie with the final buzzer sounding.

Middle Georgia outshot the Skyhawks with 10 total shots and four shots on goal compared to Point's nine shots with four on goal. Simon Niksch added three saves in the contest as the keeper.

The Skyhawks will return to the pitch for an afternoon SSAC contest against Brewton-Parker College on Saturday, September 21st starting at 4:30 P.M. This day will also serve as Senior Day which will be held following the match.
