Point Men’s Soccer falls to the Firehawks on the road

PULASKI, Tenn. (Oct. 2, 2024) - The Point Men's Soccer team returned to the pitch for a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against the University of Tennessee Southern in the SSAC Game of the Week where Point fell to the Firehawks with a final score of 6-1.  

Both opponents opened with multiple shots on goal to set the stage for a competitive match. An own goal from Point put the Firehawks on the scoreboard. The momentum continued to be in UT Southern's offense as added two consecutive goals into the half with a 3-0 lead. Point opened the second half with some momentum on their side as Joao Tiago Sousa added a goal for the Skyhawks to trim UT Southern's lead to two. However, the Firehawks halted the firepower from Point while adding two goals on their side to take the win with a final score of 6-1. 

In the Box 

UT Southern outshot the Skyhawks with a total of 24 shots with 12 on goal compared to Point's eight goals and three on goal. Joao Tiago Sousa scored the single goal for Point and Simon Niksch added six saves in goal.

The Skyhawks will continue their road trip in SSAC Play as Point travels to North Mississippi for an evening match against Blue Mountain Christian University on Saturday, October 5th beginning at 4:00 P.M.
